Curating a 3D learning experience with Sketchfab collections

Useful 3D model collections for educators.

I've written in the past that Sketchfab is an amazing platform for 3D content. One of the coolest features offered is the ability to gather a curated group of models into a collection. The nice thing about collections is that absolutely anyone can create them. You don't have to be an experienced 3D artist to jump in.

Creating a collection is easy, simply sign up for a free sketchfab.com account and begin browsing models to start building. Tap on the prominent +Add To button beneath any asset and create a new collection when prompted. You can give your collection a name, add a description and then share it easily.

Collections let you organise models into logical groups. There is no upper limit to the total number you can create, and models can be added to multiple collections.

Educators, students, hobbyists, and anyone else with a general interest in pretty much any topic can easily create and share their own - it's such a great way to learn. They also happen to be a great way for instructors to share resources with students, and for students to share relevant resources amongst the class.

All together now

As I've built up a 3D portfolio, I've started organising my artwork into several collections of my own. Each has been curated to showcase specific areas of interest or to provide a different perspective on a model.

Here are a few of my favourites that might serve as a starting point for creating your own.
